Essay Instructions:

My name is lequaan walker a 23 year old African American immigrated from London England I’ve been in Winnipeg Manitoba since 2006 and been a permanent resident since then and been here since I was 9 and this is a letter addressed to Mark.Agapito of immigration and he has given me a chance to write a letter on why I deserve to stay in the country. I have been deemed inadmissible after my recent conviction on March 28th 2020 of possession for the purpose of trafficking. In the case I was given the lowest sentence of 12 months due to the fact I wasn’t selling cocaine for financial but to support my habit as an addict. Me and mark have had this meeting before so he knows me and knows I have a passion for boxing I have finished my first year at red river college for computer science and I just need encouragement to start up again. I could’ve asked for more submissions from friends and family but I wanted this submission. To be from me and only me. What id like to go over in this submission is the following:
Outline for submission:
1. Issues of being a drug addict
2. Didn’t sell drugs for financial gain, I sold to support my habit(crack and powdered cocaine) which was agreed upon by the crown my lawyer and the judge in the final decision. That is why I received the lowest sentence.
3. Just because I’ve made some bad choices does not make me a violent or dangerous person which needs to leave the country I’ve called my home for so long.....
4. I am Canadian despite my status(permanent resident)
5. This country was founded by immigrants and of those who committed heinous crimes (tie that in to how it crimes were an issue we should’ve deported our founding fathers)

Dear Sir,
REF: Personal Submission Regarding Inadmissibility in Canada
My name is Lequaan Walker and I have been a permanent resident of Canada following my immigration from England when I was nine years old. However, following a recent drug conviction, where I was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months in prison, I was deemed inadmissible into Canada. This is a decision that I feel is not in my best interest and would wish to state my case to show that I deserve an opportunity to change and turn over a new leaf in my life as a Canadian citizen. Therefore, the following submission pertains my humble request for reconsideration regarding the decision to be deemed inadmissible into the country and be deported.
My addiction to drugs started a while back when I was introduced to cocaine by friends who used it as a recreational drug to pass the time. I had never tried drugs before hence, my initial decision was based on the need to experience such a drug coupled with the increased pressure by friends to try cocaine. Therefore, it was never my intention to create a new drug habit since I had never experienced it before and curiosity dragged me into trying it for the first time. The feelings gained after trying cocaine for the first time were intense and, in turn, drove me to forget all the problems that I was experiencing at the time. Afterward, I promised never to try the drugs ever again since its effects lasted for a significant amount of time. However, after a while, while stressful events took the better part of my time, I felt the need to escape them. My friends were readily available and were willing to provide an escape at the time, which was cocaine. Unconsciously, I was beginning to develop an affinity for the intense sensations I felt while taking the drug, and in no time, I was hooked to cocaine. I could no longer stay an entire day without taking it hence, my desire to find and use it grew every day, thus developing my addiction.
My introduction to using drugs was mainly linked to emotional stress that I experienced over a certain period of my life, where I felt that things were not working out to my expectations. The fact that I had people who could easily access crack and powdered cocaine made the situation worse since I had a continuous source. With time, I could no longer support the habit because I was addicted and did not have a stable income source. Therefore, I had to resort to a means of supporting my addiction after I was provided with the option to sell the drugs to any willing users, which in turn would provide the required cash to get my daily dosage. My motivation to turn to sell drugs was based on the need to satisfy my addiction to the drug and not benefitting financially. The reduced sentence I received after my conviction was based on this fact since all the parties involved, including my lawyer and the judge, believed my honest submission in court. My previous run-ins with the law have been minor offenses in which I have served the required consequences. Thus, my recent behavior is not a true reflection of who I am as a person and is the culmin...
