Family is an elaborate word that holds great power of influence to is other family members. It is a concept that generates prior learning for individuals in every relationship. Family is also varied in terms of number, gender, or preference. Thus, it is defined in many ways as it differs in every perspective. The same also goes for their lifestyles, as families are unique; their capabilities, socio-economic status, and medical preference are also different. Having this in mind, and with the aid of the interview, this paper will present the functional health patterns and problems encountered by a family.
The ‘Lake’ Family
The interviewed family was presented with a pseudonym of Lake following the respondent’s conditions. To start, Luke’s family was nuclear as only both parents and their two daughters were living in the house. The parents were married, and their eldest daughter was in college while the youngest was in high school; thus, their composition is a 2-parent married family. They were all Americans, and their socio-economic status is presented at the middle range. They were baptized as Christians but had their approach to their spirituality. With both parents having jobs, the two daughters were well-disciplined within the house chores as they served as a substitute whenever their parents were late. The ambiance and physical intimacy in the family were at a standard level, and closeness was also be observed.
After the interview, several factors were derived from the questions asked about their health status. The family has their approach to handling their lifestyles, such as juggling appropriate food consumption and proper exercise. If looking at the surface, their family are only doing the minimum standard to maintain health, yet after the assessment, their health status also declined slightly. The balance of protein and vegetables was present and their intake of fluids, so there was no incident of too many difficulties in elimination. Regarding their decision-making, the daughters were guided mainly by their parents. Nevertheless, looking on the other side, some complications arise, such as not seeking health care despite having major flu, unhealthy sleeping pattern, vices, and lowered self-esteem, especially for the children. An inherited disease was also observed, such as Diabetes and nasal allergy was present to both the mother and the youngest.
Functional Health Patterns
Gengo e Silva Butcher & Jones (2021) described the eleven functional health patterns presented by Gordon as an all-inclusive and rounded framework that significantly helps the health assessment of the patients since these patterns are interrelated to one another. When these patterns were used for the assessment, one of its strengths was that it was a great help to provide a diagnosis since the assessment itself was divided into several areas that imply a more considerable coverage, supported by Khatiban et al.
