Research Interview: Clinical Decision-Making Process
Identify, analyze, and discuss the components that comprise a valid evidence-based research study.
Based on the information compiled above, interview a health care leader about his/her experiences related to using evidence-based research to drive changes in practices in his/her facility.
Write a report (1,000-1,250 words) of your findings. Include the following in your report:
The changes that the health care leader has been involved in implementing.
How strong did the leader feel the research on the topic was? Why?
Have they ever rejected research findings? Why or why not?
Include any concerns they have had or resistance they have experienced when implementing changes based on research.
Analyze your findings as they apply to the components of evidence-based research.

Evidence-Based Interviews
Evidence-based interview or research is a thorough study based on a methodology whereby data concerning a particular phenomenon are collected and analyzed together then successfully articulated to the experience of the patients' preferences, values, and the professional expertise. For example, a randomized controlled trial is an evidence-based research based on an experiment that provides sound evidence concerning cause and effect. To ensure that evidence-based research fit in a particular clinical practice, the hospital expertise have to assess the problem and need for change, develop a clinical question, get reliable evidence through search, appraise such evidence for validity, and integrate the evidence and patient preferences as well as expertise. Lastly, the healthcare provider has to apply the learned information and evaluate the outcome of the research. Therefore, EBR enhances validation of healthcare practice through a systematic evaluation of the numerous strengths of the gathered evidence to develop a consensus statement that sums up the result of the process of the systematic review of the literature to ensure the best clinical decision-making process.
Report Based on Interview Findings
The main changes that the leader has been involved in include tailoring healthcare delivery that is based on EBR to the needs of patients. This besides creating awareness programs through proper communication, implementing different survival techniques in the short term as well as ensuring proper long term planning for the success of the healthcare service (Haynes, 2002).
Initially, the respondent indicated that there had been problems associated with proper communication and dialogue between the patients and the healthcare providers. However, with the implementation of the EBR in the healthcare sector, the healthcare leader has realized the benefits of having evidence to encourage dialogue and share such information with the patient in decision-making as well as ensuring that the patients' values and preferences are considered. Henceforth, the respondent has been listening to patients' concerns, develop a proper treatment plan and develop the most appropriate course of action (Haynes, 2002).
On a separate note, the healthcare leader has noted improvement on the quality due to the application of the current standardized EBR protocols rather than reading numerous articles a day concerning new information. This idea is coupled with implementation of the real-time data in making care decisions due to technology. For example, the of electronic medical records (EMRs), built-in protocols, decision support system and thorough analysis enable them to use the evidence-based medicine to ensure better care for real-time data. Another change that has been exhibited is on the quality of care due to the implementation of EBR where the respondent has been having access to previous and untapped information and best practices that have been approved by peers (Burns & Grove, 2010).
The health care leader also mentioned that transparency and accountability are crucial in healthcare systems. Therefore, implementation of the EBR ensur...
