Although the rationing of transplants could be termed as generally unethical considering the lives of the patients in danger, it is unavoidable. Most hospitals in the United States run out of options since the listing number of patients are more than the available organs for transplant (Caplan & Parent, 2015). Thus, relating the availability with the total population in need shows that healthcare facilities may not have much to do regarding the rationing of transplants. However, the major problem is that they do not use just and fair means to determine who should get the limited number of organs (Axelrod, 2019). For instance, people with substantial resources have listed themselves with numerous hospitals, raising their chances of getting any available organ (Caplan & Parent, 2015). This practice shows that only the rich can eventually afford to pay to the organs, get them at the expense of people who might be in critical condition, and needing the same organ for survival.
All patients, including the non-compliant population, have the right to get transplants as long as they are eligible...
