The Effectiveness Of Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Research Paper Instructions:

Instructions: To be successful in completing each research design, you must briefly give information on a study that you would design. Be creative and make this fun! Six mini research designs are required for success. Each is worth a total of 25 points.
Statistical Test: []
Purpose: []
Independent Variable: []
Dependent Variable: []
Method: []
Example:
Statistical Test: The test that I would use is the Independent Measures t-test.
Purpose: A study using the independent measures t-test that I would like to design is a study on the effect of eating chocolate on mood.
Independent Variable: My independent variable would be the amount of chocolate the participants eat.
Dependent Variable: The dependent variable would be the participants’ mood measured with a mood survey.
Method: This study would have two groups of participants. One group of participants would get three chocolate Hershey’s kisses and an 8oz glass of water. The other group of participants would get only the 8oz glass of water. Both groups would take a survey that measures mood. After the survey, the mood survey responses of those who had chocolate would be compared with those who did not eat chocolate.
Other guidelines: Be sure to use complete sentences when writing each piece of the assignment. Each piece has a minimum word count as indicated on the rubric.
Do not use a correlational research method (Pearson or Spearman) or Chi Square. Any mini research design that uses any of these designs will earn a maximum of 15 points out of 25.
Each mini research design will be worth 25 points. The six entries together will be worth 150 points out of 1,000 points.

Name Course Instructor Date The effectiveness of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in lowering the patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scores in adults with depression Statistical Test: The test that I would use is the Independent Measures t-test. Purpose: To determine the effect of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) on the patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scores in adults with depression. Independent variable: CBT is the independent variable since this is the intervention used to determine its effect on depression as indicated by the PHQ-9 scores. Dependent variable: The score on the depression questionnaire, where the participants are treated with CBT and complete the depression questionnaire. Method: Participants selected are between 18 and 45 years of age, both male and female. CBT intervention is used to determine whether there is a decrease in the PHQ-9 levels, and lower scores indicate there is improvement among people diagnosed with depression. There would be two groups where participants receive the CBT intervention, and in the other group there is no therapy intervention. The PHQ-9 scores would be compared between the two groups to determine whether CBT affects the questionnaire scores. The PHQ-9 tool not only allows one to investigate of patients with depressive disorders through a self-assessment survey, but also allows determining the severity of depression, which is helpful in follow-up treatment. The PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire) consists of 9 items that evaluate the presence of depressive symptoms (corresponding to the DSM-IV criteria) present in the last 2 weeks. 2) Statistical Test: The test that I would use is the Paired T-Test effect Purpose: To determine the effect of music therapy on patients’ anxiety among long-term care patients where pain is assumed to increase anxiety and a positive mood reduces anxiety. Independent variable: The independent variable is the music therapy used to determine its effect on anxiety levels. Dependent variable: The dependent variable is the anxiety level, and anxiety may also increase the risk of depression. Method: The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) is used to measure the anxiety levels at the pre and post intervention anxiety levels and scores are compared before and after intervention. All the participants in the study are long-term care patients who consent to participate voluntarily. Using the paired t-test the mean scores of anxiety levels at pre and post intervention is used for group comparisons. 3) Statistical Test: The test that I would use is the analysis of Variance (ANOVA) Purpose: To determine the impact of binge eating disorder on obesity where the eating behaviors are considered in pre-surgical evaluation to measure binge eating. Independent variable: The independent variable is binge and compulsive eating b...
