History is indeed one of the most interesting and fruitful topics that a student could learn. This is because it tells us more about the rich cultural background of our country as well as shape our future based on the principles on which it stands. In line with our course, some of the things that I learned were (2) the effects of the Great Depression on the State and its people and (2) how the period affected the current rights and privileges that we enjoy today.
           On the one hand, the Great Depression led to a series of disastrous and unfortunate events, not only for the country but also for the whole world. The plunge in the economy caused the skyrocketing rates in poverty, unemployment, and chaos. It even perpetrated aggressive attitudes towards minorities due to the belief that they are stealing the available jobs in the period of recession. On the other hand, however, careful planning and implementation of government programs for both the State and welfare of the people have led to a reversal of these events. Although it initially led to classification, programs such as the Social Security Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, and the National Industrial Economy Act have all ushered a new period in history that would become the standards of today’s workplace.
