Research:

Your report must contain varied sources (i.e., periodicals, journal articles, combination of books

“homepage” content and be in keeping with the standard of post-secondary level research,

meaning use the LRC databases.

You are required to use a minimum of 3 varied external sources for your assignment in addition to

your course readings or notes. Varied sourcing means not all the same type of source.

Above all, be sure to have credible and recent (post the year 2000) sources. Try to avoid sources

with no date and no author; they detract from the credibility of your sourcing. If you must use

sources without an author and or date, limit it to one of your 3 external sources. See Course

Resources under Content as well.

The essay provides a detailed summary of research done on the 4ocean company. It provides an insight into the cultural beliefs, values and norms of the company and reflects on the leadership impacts on the organization. To add on that, it reflects on how the company culture has positively impacted the marine world and the challenges that impede the company from implementing cleaning projects. To conclude, it provides an assessment of how the company continues to epitomize a global mindset.
4ocean is a profit organization that cleans up plastic materials from oceans and makes bracelets from the waste. It was founded in Florida by two college graduates Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulz in 2017. The purpose of this organization is to remove the millions of pounds of trash that is believed to be polluting oceans. Additionally, it is founded on the belief that businesses can be used to change the world if wielded in the right way. Since its foundation the organization has gone ahead to win the ‘Agent of Change award’ on Surfer magazine and has been acknowledged by Forbes magazine and Newsweek for entrepreneurship and creativity. Each bracelet sold helps in removing waste from the oceans. Although 4ocean aids in reducing pollution in oceans and seas, the lack of public awareness regarding plastic waste pollution proves to be a major challenge. Research has shown that there is more than 250,000 tons of plastic and the current rate there could be more plastic than fish in oceans by 2050. Back in 2018, the organization hit the one million mark, which is approximately 0.01% of the waste polluting our oceans. The company states that its global cleanup is funded by its profits.
Cultural Beliefs, Values and Norms at 4ocean
Contrary to popular beliefs, it is possible to make money while playing an active role in society development. 4ocean has a work culture that plays a major role in the smooth running of the company. The work culture entails: Firstly, the company workers must be cordial with workmates. Backbiting, racism and any form of discrimination is considered extremely unprofessional and can cost one their job. However, the company also uses a network of volunteers to collect trash from beaches (glassdoor, 2020). The volunteers are also sent away once they start showcasing any form of discriminatory conduct. Secondly, employees work with a brotherly spirit. As the organization grows, people conforming to different cultures are integrated into the system. These workers are often brought together by a common goal and do not let religious, political and cultural conflicts impact the quality of their service. People are only judged based on the quality of their work.
Thirdly, employees are involved in the decision making process in the work place. Insights from different perspectives often contribute to better conclusions. Additionally, giving each person a chance to speak their minds often establishes trust. Transparency is an essential trait at all levels of the company and there are strict policies regarding tampering with data or information. Fourthly, the company managers promote employee friendly policies. Employees of 4ocean are able to take medical leaves a...
