Therefore, people resort to reinventing the wheel instead of inventing a new wheel. In writing, this means that one has to use other people’s works to build their own. While doing so, it is crucial to acknowledge the works of other people that someone chooses to use to communicate their thought or idea. According to Masic (2013), one should not stop at acknowledging but go the extra step of ensuring that the information they provide is accurate and complete. Acknowledging sources is crucial because it also allows readers to be able to locate the works used if they would like to learn more about a topic (University of Nebraska Kearney, 2020). Further, one can avoid plagiarism issues and enhance their work by giving it a high level of credibility.

Professional practices and scholarly ethics are two terms that may not seem to have a close and direct relationship. While in school, scholarly ethics is emphasized as teachers try to make sure that students maintain high levels of integrity in their assignments, CATS, and main exams. Professional practices are what govern people once they transition into employment. These practices ought to guide and dictate the behavior of the employees and ensure strict observance of rules and regulations. In school, students often ignore scholarly ethics without considering how being found lacking in ethics could potentially impact their future once they transition to their professional fields. Ramberg and Modin (2019) note that cheating in school lays the foundation for “future unethical actions.” People become increasingly used to taking shortcuts and will likely continue the same trend later in life. Therefore, the two cannot be separated because one lays the foundation for the other one.
