California’s AB 1535
AB 1535 is a law in the State of California. This law sought to allow or permit pharmacists in the State to issue naloxone hydrochloride upon request and not upon prescription. Naloxone is considered an opioid reversal medication. According to Carroll (2019), the move to allow pharmacists to dispense naloxone helped reduce opioid overdose deaths. So, this move was seen as a way to counter the opioid crisis in California. So, the law’s main purpose is to help ensure that opioid-related deaths are prevented in the State.
