1. Provide a brief synopsis of the video.
This is an intimate family film that was produced by Sher and Rob Safran, which documents the Sher’s parents’ last week. Charlie and Francie are retired Kaiser Permanente and former medical missionaries. They are now in their late 80s and reside in a care retirement community. They have also been diagnosed to have a maximum of 6 months to live. Both are long-time supporters of the right-to-die movement, and they have opted to use the option of Death with Dignity as offered by the State of Oregon (Blanke, LeBlanc, Hershman, Ellis, & Meyskens, 2017).
Their eldest daughter Jerilyn gives them loving and logistical support as they go through the process of qualifications. They are taken through medical evaluations conducted by caring physicians, and they are given practical guidance and information by volunteers working with End of Life Choices (Stone, 2020). The family’s open communication, acceptance of death, and intentional preparation are in one scene in which Francie, Jerilyn, and Sher discuss the exact words that Jeryn should use when notifying family and friends of their death. As the date for Charlie and Francie’s planned death approaches, the family gathers in tears and laughter as they celebrate the couple’s 70 years of marriage, and also bid them goodbye. After a few days, Charlie and Francie’s wish is fulfilled as they die peacefully, hand in hand.

2. The video describes the steps for moving through Death with the Dignity qualification process. Briefly explain the steps and provide your opinion about the process. Are the steps reasonable or not? Why? You may research other related resources to support your stance.
i. The interested party makes the first oral request to the physician; he/she expresses their interest in going through the process (Blanke, C., Ellis, L., & Meyskens, 2018).
ii. Waiting for 15 days; this is a legal requirement.
iii. Party makes a second oral request to their physicia...
