Modern resonances reflection

Introduction: Many of you have been remarking upon how resonant the ancient texts we have been reading are with media you already know. That is, you have seen connections between things we have been reading from millennia ago and today’s media and culture, or media and culture you have studied. This assignment asks you to reflect on this resonance. In 3-4 pages, please describe a connection you have seen between the ancient world and a piece of media more recent and then reflect on the meaning of both texts: how does the ancient text influence the meaning of the modern text? And how does the modern text influence the potential meaning of the ancient text? To properly fill 3-4 pages will require serious reflection on specific details that resonate and specific changes in context that influence how we might interpret both texts, the ancient and the modern.
Writing Task: (this section includes my expectations for your submission):
In about 750-1000 words or ~3-4 pages, articulate the resonance of an ancient text in a piece of media of your choice and reflect on how each text influences the meaning of the other. This assignment requires you to summarize the aspects of both texts you plan to reflect upon and present your ideas in a way for an audience who is well-informed but ignorant of both texts.
Suggestions for media choices: For the ancient text, anything on the reading list in the syllabus is available for your consideration. For the more modern text, please pick a piece of media that you are already familiar with, or one that would be easy to become familiar with quickly (like a film or artwork). It’s possible that your choice of media could consciously be a retelling of an ancient story OR an unrelated piece that takes up similar themes in interesting ways. Feel free to be creative, but remember that you are still required to construct an argument in this paper.

An ancient Greek poet, Homer, wrote The Illiad. It is an ancient epic poem that describes the significant last weeks of the trojan war and the greek siege of Troy city. Homer wrote The Illiad in the mid-8th century BCE, and it is considered one of the oldest Western literary tradition. It explores several themes that include glory, fate, homecoming, and wrath owing to its prominence in describing the Trojan War and the intervention of gods in the war. On the other hand, the Last Dance is a modern television series that highlights the life and basketball carrier of the legendary Michael Jordan. It describes his strengths and weaknesses and the impact he left on the Chicago Bulls basketball team. Kleos applies to the poem and the television series. It is a Greek word that loosely translates to glory. Therefore, it identifies with the glory of Michael Jordan and the protagonists in the poem The Illiad left behind. Kleos is more prominent in the poem because it is a Greek word that mostly accompanies the Greek poem. This essay gives the resonance of kleos and The Illiad in the television series The Last Dance.
The Illiad's story seems to have inspired the story in The Last Dance since they are very similar in structure and themes. The Illiad presents a tough war where warriors have to be dedicated to winning it. The safety of the city of Troy depends on the success of the battle. However, those engaged in superiority fights and almost lost the battle. The protagonists seem to be going after fame during the fight. Hector is a dedicated warrior who does not seem to go for both fame and collective success (Silk). When his group thought they were losing the battle because of not consulting the gods, their leader sends him back to the village to ask those left behind to give offerings. This is a sign of humility that often drives success.
Similarly, in The Last Dance, Michael Jordan does not view himself as a role model. He had a humble beginning when he joined the basketball team and maintained it for the whole period. However, he fights other challenges of staying away from ...
