For the past years, the video game industry has developed due to new technology and use of smart phones and computers. This new technology has affected the level at which kids are accessing video games via television programs and the internet. Ordinary people (who do not play computer games) find this activity as time wasting and unproductive. But to others, video games are a form of entertainment where they spend a large portion of their time enjoying their favorite games. Video games are affecting children’s behavior both positively and negatively as will be discussed in this paper.
When children are playing video games they waste time that would rather be used in significant chores and focusing on learning. Today, when in school or out of school, students are spending a substantial amount of time watching and playing games on computers or smart phones. Computers and smart phones are readily available either at school or home making it easy for kids to access them. Those who do not access gaming devices while at school, do so when at home where they rather play games instead of doing homework. Children while at that moment have reduced time to assist in house chores as some are addicted to gaming. Children aged 2to 5 years spend almost 28 minutes per day enjoying their favorite video games (Hilgard et al. 762). Unlike small aged kids, older kids seem to spend more time enjoying video games. Also, boys play for longer hours as compare to girls becoming less creative to their families.
Some video games are violent and a major cause of aggressive thoughts, feeling, and behaviors in children. Aggression may be heightened in kids by playing computer games, whereby this group finds electronic games as one of the best types of entertainment (Zheng 1748). Playing video games makes people feel relaxed, and most kids spend an inordinate quantity of time on this action. According to Zheng and Zhang (1748), researchers have assessed that 89 percent of the computer games people play have violent content and pictures of blood. For instance, counter-strike games show players to shoot opponents with automatic guns in actual-life situations by observational learning. At the same time, teachers have revealed how some pupils have become bullies causing school violence
