Science was not birthed in a vacuum, but in a particular culture and society at a specific historical time. Modern science emerged in Western Europe during the Renaissance and advanced mostly in Europe before a universal pursuit in the twentieth century.
Western Science in the late nineteenth and twentieth century evoked a large number of intellectual and cultural alterations in Europe; therefore, it changed ideas and procedures by which thoughts are developed (Maltby, 291). This major movement impacted every facet of European life: religion, politics, philosophy, literature, and science. Because of the scientific revolution, the Europeans began thinking differently about the physical universe and started doubting their previous beliefs regarding religion, faith, and God (Maltby, 291). Because the scientific revolution radically challenged the authority and power of the church, sometimes, the church hindered “innovations in science.” But it should not be assumed that “scientific enterprise and religious belief are inherently inimical to one another,” (Henry, 40).
