Heteronormativity is concerned with how people interpret sexual orientation. It is the concept that heterosexuality, a sexual attraction between people of the opposite gender, is the normal sexual orientation mode. It is based on the assumption that two distinct genders, opposite each other, exist. These opposite genders define the sexual relationships and marriage patterns globally. Thus, the heteronormative view is angered on gender identity, sexuality, and gender roles, and linked to heterosexism. On the other hand, homonormativity refers to the assimilation of heteronormative constructs and ideals into LGBTQ culture and identity, thus privileging homosexual society members.
