Screen time, the amount of time spent interacting with television, computers, mobile devices, and video games, is a concern for many parents in industrialized nations. “Average screen time increases from 55 minutes per day at 6 months to just under 1 ½ hours per day at age 2” (Berk, 2021, p. 206). The overwhelming majority of young children in the industrialized world (over 90 percent) have access to a television, computer and one or more mobile devices, usually smartphones but also tablets, with access to the Internet (Berk, 2021, p. 342).

When children are being brought up, they are exposed to mobile phones, television sets, video games, and even computers in the recent past. The majority of parents can easily offer these gadgets without struggle. With innovations in the industrialized world, young children have access to the internet, smartphones, and even tablets. Mostly, gadgets are offered to children for entertainment, education, and to keep them occupied. Also, quality TV time increases cognitive development, literacy, and early language development. Which screen media were you exposed to growing up and at what age did you acquire it or them?
My parent introduced me to the screen at the age of one year. I was given access to television mostly when they needed time to carry out their duties without my interference. In essence, they encouraged me to watch educational shows such as Dora and Barney. While on the screen, the concentration is built-up on the gadget; thus, I was limited to only 1 hour.
What advice would you give a typical us parent about permitting an infant or a toddler to watch as much as 1 to 1 ½ hour of TV or video per day?
The advice I would give to a typical US parent is that as long it is beneficial to your child, for instance, an educational video that is an hour-long, is good for them.
