Drawing from the insights offered by Babbie (2016), there are three key reasons for conducting research. These are exploration, description, and explanation. The author adds that often, the objectives of a study are focused on accomplishing more than one of these purposes. Exploration entails gathering insights that allow the research to familiarize with the issue under research. Suggestively, exploration improves understanding by satisfying the investigator’s curiosity and desire in the study. The description purpose focuses on describing situations and events by engaging in scientific observations, which facilitate developing knowledge through accurate and precise approaches. Explanation focuses on conducting research that entails answering questions on what, when, where, and how. A research approach that uses explanation enables prediction, which enables the researcher to have control over the investigation descriptively.
