In the first reading we learn that women were an integral part in the fight against the scabs. The scabs received as much teargas as they threw to the people. They also managed to shoot teargas into the houses and unfortunately burnt down one of the horses. This tactic did not instill fear into them and they also got backing from their husbands and children and together they gave the police a fight they had never experienced before in their lives (Dahl, 2015). This was the beginning of a fight against low wages that both men and women were ready for to ensure their pleas were heard out.
In 1933-1939, the then U.S president Franklin D. Roosevelt enacted a series of programs and reforms known as the “New Deal” whose main purpose was to respond to relief and help with the recovery caused by the great depression. Roosevelt was the one who was majorly responsible for the new deal advances but only because he got pressure from the workers unions which were on strikes and the thousands of people who were unemployed and demonstrating on the streets on a daily basis.
The most active of the programs was the national Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) which later came to be known as the National Recovery Act (NRA).Their main agenda was to provide support for the majority of unemployed youth and the elderly.
