I believe more students are more addicted to computer games today more than ever before and it has significant negative effects on their lives. We are living in a world where technology is advancing rapidly. While technological changes bring some positive effects to people’s lives, they also come with unwanted changes. Students are on the receiving end of advancement in computer games. As technology advances, so does new and appealing computer games that have detrimental effects on the lives of students who play them. I believe more students are addicted to computer games today and it is responsible for poor academic performance, aggression, poor health, and strained relationships.
Addiction to computer games is harmful to students’ life because it leads to poor academic performance. With an addition to computer games, a student would spend numerous hours playing; time that would otherwise be utilized doing other constructive activities like homework, research, and studying. I believe a student who is addicted to computer games will find it difficult to concentrate in class since playing them can go deep into the night. Given that such student will have few hours to sleep, it is deducible that concentrating in class would be difficult. I believe a student’s performance is inversely related to the time spend playing computer games. Therefore, the more time a student spends playing computer games, the more likely their performance will go down. Hence, since more students are playing computer games now than ever before, it is likely that the overall academic performance is going to decline with time.
Addiction to computer games among students today is harmful to their lives because I believe it is associated with aggressive behavior. Many computer games are characterized by violence where the player can ‘shoot’ a character or engage in other actions that embody violence. Unlike movies and television where watching is passive, computer games require active involvement. The player is in control of a character in the game and can execute a series of violent acts in order to win or score points.
