Part 1
Facial expressions, eye contact, body movement and posture, and folded arms indicate that there is some uneasiness between the participants in the communication process Facial expressions are among the most expressive nonverbal forms of communication that convey emotions. In the conversation, the female participant seems surprised when the male participant asks more about her three children when she informs him about them. Both participants maintain eye contact with each other, but the female participant wants to know more about the man and watches his reactions closely to better understand him.
The participants maintain upright postures, but the female participant moved her head around, while the male participant was steady. Body movement and gestures are used for physical expression and can stress or convey specific messages (Engleberg & Wynn, 2016).The nonverbal behavior made it seem that the female participant still needed more information and assurance from the male participants. The female participant keeps her arms folded, which may imply that she is defensive and anxious. However, since she maintains direct eye contact, arm folding may also signal that she wants to give her undivided attention to the male participant who is willing to listen to her and also talk about himself.
Part 2
The social presence, direct and clear communication and the lack of eye contact and affect the attitudes of the two participants. The male participant seems absent-minded and may be nervous and he keeps his replies short.
