PMHNP
The world is changing quickly, and almost every aspect has changed. People’s and communities’ medical needs have shifted, necessitating a shift in the roles of health professionals. The stereotype associated with mental health issues has also been broken, allowing more people to seek professional help rather than keep their illnesses to themselves. People have recognized that it is not only the body that is important but also the mind. According to Lake and Tuner (2017), there is an existing shortage and unequal distribution of psychiatric physicians. Roles of a PMHNP
Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses. PMHNPs are committed to improving people’s mental health. Individuals are cared for by PMHNPs throughout their lives. They assist people with behavioral issues, mental illnesses, and associated diseases that may exist by evaluating them, administering diagnostic tests, and providing therapeutic interventions. PMHNPs diagnose, treat, and improve the outcomes of patients with mental health issues by combining nursing, psychosocial, and neurobiological expertise and strategies. The PMHNPs offer various mental health services. They can also work in private and public hospitals or health centers. Furthermore, PMHNPs also provide services to various people. Everyone is unique; thus, PMHNPs should serve various people and use diverse strategies for them. They may work with people suffering from past traumas, addiction, depression, and other mental illnesses. In creating the proper strategies for these people, the PMHNPs need to evaluate their mental capacity, craft a specialized plan, execute it, and evaluate its efficiency. In all, PMHNP services improve public mental health care access and quality (Wampold, 2019).
