The healthcare departments are embarking on an era of value-based care with pressure mounting to reduce the spread of healthcare-associated infections. For generations handwashing using soap and water has been portrayed as a measure of personal hygiene. Although it does help, hand hygiene rates I hospitals are extremely low and new interventions need to be put in place. This proposal intends to look at measures to improve outcomes and help healthcare professionals avoid fiscal penalties.
To promote compliance, it is important to understand some of the human motivations that help influence compliance. This can include explaining the perceived seriousness of the situation. If a caregiver interprets the seriousness and the potential susceptibility to cause harm as a result of non-compliance, they are more likely to be mindful. Also, promotion should not focus on the risks rather, they should also include benefits of compliance. In a caregiving position, it is in the best interest to look after the patient and ensure you offer an unforgettable recovery journey. This taps into their self-efficacy and human side which makes it easy for them to comply. This are actions that will push the caregivers into compliance such as placing hand sanitizers at points of use.
Improvement is a basic human need and everyone is always looking for new ways to improve themselves. With this perspective in mind, creating measures that are an improvement of traditional ways of doing things brings a new lease on life to the work environment.
