Risk assessment and management is crucial in all organizations as it plays a significant role in recovering from calamities. In the healthcare sector, it is important to have such a department to help with the smooth flow of operations (Carroll, 2008). Prevention of the transmission of infectious diseases is a duty that is left to the risk management department. It is divided into two; standard and transmission based precautions. The precautions are important since they make the health care providers ready for any emergency that may occur within the hospital and needs immediate attention to prevent it from deteriorating while at the same time keep the hospital functional. To curb this, the clinic applies the standard set of precautions that will help minimize the fear within the caregivers and the other patients. It is important always to make sure that these precautions are applied regardless of the diagnosis. The use of these precautions is increasingly becoming necessary to reduce the transmission of multi-drug resistance organism (MRO) in health centers and the community in general (Bulau, 2009).
Another strategy applied by that particular clinic falls under the transmission-based precautions. This precaution is applied in conjunction with standard precautions in cases where the diagnosis for the patients who are suspected or confirmed to have been infected with organisms of concern. It also requires other precautions to manage the infections, but they vary according to the mode of transmission. A good example is where an individual has been diagnosed with an airborne disease which is considered highly contagious. They should be put in quarantine to avoid the further spread of the disease. Additionally, respiratory masks should be provided to the health practitioners for protection.
The risk management program is also tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that people perform while in the workplace...
