Implementing the EHR system may face challenges because of concerns about patient outcomes, while the investments may seem high For instance, physicians may be concerned about compromise on patient privacy since communication is conducted more electronically. However to show the effectiveness of adopting EHR is that there will be increased coordination, while there is a need to demonstrate that adopting new EHR systems would also be associated with adopting authentication protocols for all accessing the health records. Having limited people accessing the health information is crucial to maintaining patient confidentiality.
Another challenge is customization of EHR in diverse healthcare environments, since organizations have their unique features that make it difficult to customize the implementation of the system. For instance, when a general hospital adopts an EHR system for an acute care settings it is not possible to meet all needs.
