Introduction
With a relatively robust economy, America has been hailed as one of the most prosperous countries in the world. This has been virtually in all contexts as it is seen to have practical development systems (Monagle, 2014). The system of health care in America is one of the most elaborate in the world. It form of delivery of services to the people is seen to achieve maximum results. This is not to mean that it is without challenges. When Obama took over presidency of America, he introduced new laws that were to change the health care system. This system faced huge opposition from some quotas. However, with time people came to accept what is now known as Obama Care.
There are various forms of health care service delivery systems all of which have specific goals and philosophies that they seek to achieve. United States have a healthcare system that is different from other countries (Rouse, 2010). There are some advantages that Americans have reaped from this system. Yet there are some shortcomings associated with the system. The aim of this discussion is to make a parallel look at the various methods of healthcare delivery, what they seek to achieve and perhaps draw conclusions on which appear to be most effective.
Capitalist system
More often, the system of governance in each country dictates the system of healthcare adopted. American has been largely capitalist. Money remains as the main gain for all those providing services and goods. The model followed by the health care system is very similar to the economic system used. Service delivery within this system is done at a fee. This means that patients pay for every service that they get through the healthcare system. This is done through the insurance companies that majority of American citizens have taken up. It is almost mandatory for American citizens to take up covers for insurance which covers for all forms ailments that a person may suffer from.
Americans are disposed to various options when it comes to the system of health care. While the practitioners in the medical field have the freedom to choose which state they want to practice, patients also have a choice to decide which doctor to treat them (Monagle, 2014). Americans have personal and family physicians where they go based on their choice. However, one of the main shortcomings of the American system of healthcare is that it is expensive. This means that there are some citizens who are left out from the system and yet healthcare is a fundamental need for all people.
Canada
Just like America, there is an element of capitalism in the system of healthcare in Canada. In contrast, however, that the government of Canada is fully responsible for taking care of healthcare needs, The American system is such that pretty most of the medical covers available, (more than 50%) is provided by the private sector. The fact that such a crucial primary need has been left majorly in the hands of the private sector has seen the cost of healthcare steadily rising (McCarthy, 2011).
