"Imago Dei," which is found in the bible, is the Latin translation of the "image of God." This is rooted in the phrase "So God created man in His image, in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them," which is a biblical passage that originated from Genesis 1:27. The phrase image of God also appeared in the fifth and ninth chapter of Genesis which presented the lineage from Adam to Noah, and the blessing of God to Noah after the great flood, respectively. It can be implied from the verse that humans are not only created from the image of God physically but also spiritually, morally, and intellectually ( n.d)
Imago Dei's interpretation has influenced Christianity. Christians apply the phrase "image of God" as a fundamental principle in how one should act and think and figure out the importance and purpose of one's life. As defined by pbs.org, it deals with two basic things – the self-actualization of God and His care through and for humankind. It can also be expounded as the image of God as similarity, as counterpart, as dominion, and as representation. Besides being physically similar to God, human beings are also considered as the counterpart of God created for fellowship that relates to one another and to govern over other God's creation on earth.
Moreover, having the conscience, emotions, spiritual awareness, and some theologians also identified moral capacity as human nature's characteristics in the image of God.
