1 What does Crary mean when he talks about “decorporealizing vision”?

Decorporealizing vision used by Jonathan Crary derives its meaning from camera obscura, which simply refers to a completely dark box with a hole that allows light to pass into it, with the end result being an image of the object from outside. This happens when light is reflected from the object through the small opening into the dark box. (Crary, Jonathan. "Techniques of the Observer." Pg 31) Therefore, decorporealizing vision means sorting and comparing the features of the image and those of the real object. It is all about separating seeing and the knowledge we have about a given subject.
It is not always about vision only but entails decoding the details of the image. It gives us the reality of how the world is. Decorporealizing vision, therefore, gives us a representation of how we see the world, and what we learn from the observations.
