Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity
Academic writing refers to nonfiction writing delivered as an academic assignment, while academic integrity refers to the commitment and moral behavior in academic settings (Newton, 2016). Academic writing requires the writer to use other people's work to build on an argument but acknowledge the sources of the argument's ideas. This means that the writer should only use the reference sources to create original work. It is essential to state the source of the ideas by citing and referencing your work by which the writer maintains academic integrity. Some people might write academic work but fail to reference their work, compromising academic integrity (Glasper, 2016). Therefore, academic writing and integrity are related because they should maintain academic integrity to write a quality paper.
Ethical behavior is critical in professional work. Every scholarly community should always acknowledge the importance of honesty, fairness, dignity, equality, diversity, and respect for individual rights (Meskell & Pels (Eds.), 2020). Scholars do research and make a report that informs the public about the whole process to their findings. This way, they educate the public. During their study, they need to maintain a high caliber of professional ethics to ensure that the public gets a good quality of information and that other scholars' work does not go in vain. Scholars ensure professional ethics by acknowledging other scholars' works in their research (Laureate Education, Inc. (Executive Producer), 2018). It means that they will always need to be fair, honest, and maintain work integrity.
