In vitro fertilization (IVF) has made it easier for women to get children, but there is a need to have some form of regulation to avoid abuse. Despite progression in the development of the IVF techniques, there is still need for more tests and studies to understand the likely risk and vulnerabilities that may affect children conceived through IVF. Even though, IVF has been framed as a human rights issue there are ethical implications that affect the use of the IVF techniques. Many countries in the West have adopted IVF, but there has been opposition in the Catholic dominated countries including Costa Rica, where opponents argued that it does not support the constitutional protection of life (Boddiger, 2013). Additionally, caution should also be exercised when there is an option to fund IVF through public means.
