The international community is essential, especially when dealing with matters to do with state security. The article by Akonor (2011) examines some of the challenges that the United Nations was facing due to the Libyan crisis. I agree that the problem only worsened since the involved parties aggravated the situation. The U.N. intervened in the conflict to protect civilians. In the end, it began to support the rebel forces so that they could remove Muammar Al Ghaddafi from power.
Even though global alliances between states through the U.N. security council can be beneficial, the opposite occurred when African countries supported the U.N. resolution to initiate military action in Libya. The outcome of the solution reveals the complex nature of international diplomacy (Akonor, 2011). The African leaders were humiliated since they wanted to travel to Libya and asked for permission to travel over the no-fly zone. Their request was not approved, and Libya was bombed the next day by the security council (Akonor, 2011). The resolution was not the best option since the African countries voted in support of the war; they lost control over the African continent to non-Africans.
