Hi Borowicz! I concur that international relations (IR) are a social science. IR explores how states and governments interrelate with each other on the global stage. Because these companies and their interactions are created and done by humans, IR examines human conduct and is hence categorized as a social science (Neumann, 2014, p.332). I place myself in realism and constructivism theories within the three major theories. Realism perceives IR as a conflict amongst state actors over assets and power.
In contrast, constructivism perceives the customs, values, and principles of nations, their populace, and their leaders as the most vital aspect of IR. My alignment with realism is more about self-interest. Realist tries to get the solution to the world order by underlining the global interest and concerns on world anarchy framework and often tries to develop pessimistic images of the global system. Realism places state survival instincts as the primary interest. Realists trust that conflict will usually be a part of global events and IR (Hendrickson, 2021, p.3). as governments pursue their national interests, they will inescapably conflict. This conflict will sometimes be demonstrated in military might, which raises war prospects.
