1. Ks Post:
A personal example was that when I was around the age of 8, I struggled a lot with comprehension within school. I was put into AIS English for the teachers to try to help me better my comprehension and reading skills. I was embarrassed when it was time to read in class aloud or ask questions.
Erikson's theory relates to this example with the stage of industry and inferiority. I was embarrassed to get up to go to the AIS class because of the concern of how my peers would look at me. Erikson’s stage of inferiority supports this concept as receiving negative feedback regarding my skills led to a sense of inferiority. I felt that I was missing out and wasn’t as good as the other individuals within my classroom since I was being sent to the AIS classroom.
Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, as stated by Lally & Valentine-French (2017) “which is the belief that you are capable of carrying out a specific task or of reaching a specific goal” (p. 194). Basically, differences between self- efficacy and abilities can result in self-esteem and motivation issues. Within the example I gave, I experienced motivational issues where I didn’t want to read. I still am obstinate with reading aloud or free reading because of this still today. I refused to read for fun throughout grade school because I didn’t see the purpose if I was terrible at it.

2. S's Post:
One example of a child struggling with mastery and competence could be a child that is struggling with reading. She has a hard time reading from left to right and often mixes up the sounds of words. She becomes critical of herself because she notices her peers are not having the same struggles. She is also embarrassed when its her turn to read out loud. She does not want her peers to know she is struggling.
Erikson's theory of Industry Vs. Inferiority applies to this example because he believed that children at this age are comparing themselves to their peers. He also believed that if a child is unsuccessful in an activity or skill they will feel inferior to their peers (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019). In the example, she demonstrates her feelings of inferiority by not wanting to read in front of others.
According to Bandura, to successfully develop Self-Efficacy, a child needs to be rewarded for success and aided to reach that success. They also need to see others successfully carrying out the same tasks (Empire State University, n.d.). This concept would apply to my example if she receives help with her reading and is then praised for her successful attempts. She will then feel good about herself and start to believe that she is capable of reading anything at anytime.

Hello K. Your discussion regarding your personal life and Erickson and Barbara's theory is informative since it explains why children's performance varies. For instance, when you were 8, you suffered from inferiority since you were taken to AIS English because you struggled with English comprehension and reading skills. This experience is explained by Erickson's industry vs. inferiority, which purports that a kid practices to do things correctly depending on the standards established by others, especially in schools (Lally & Valentine-French, 2017). If the children can perform various
