Technologies Used for Purposes Other Than Inventors' Intentions
The Gods Must Be Crazy. You can view it here: (https://vimeo(dot)com/58777842)
In this clip, an indigenous tribe receives a technology it has never encountered previously. They come to “understand” that technology through the lens of their own values and experiences in their traditional life. They are completely oblivious to the inventor’s actual intentions for the technology, because this culture would have to learn many, many new things about the world that is so seemingly distant from them in order to understand the inventor’s intentions. If they learned all of the content surrounding the technology, the device itself would be just a small shock.
In light of this, can we say that the Australian tribe is using the technology “wrong?” If they are developing new knowledge about and through the device, and then applying that knowledge in a manner that is meaningful within their culture, are they innovators?
Your assignment is below
Find and write an example of technologies being used for purposes other than what was intended by the inventor(s). Research and discover one technology that was not used in its originally intended manner, and present it in a 275 words document. Consider the video clip from The Gods Must Be Crazy (https://vimeo(dot)com/58777842) as your guide. You are welcome to find these episodes of misunderstanding from published fictional sources (i.e. novels, short stories, movies, comic books, etc.).
Write a 275 words describing the misunderstood technology, the designed/intended use for the technology, the misunderstanding, the alternative use of the technology, and the indigenous (or local) knowledge that influenced the alternative use of the technology.
A word of caution: This assignment is more challenging than it looks. Your careful research and attention to detail will be needed here.

Ewoks are indigenous creatures who appear to have an organized society, complex language, culture and tools. However, the state of their civilization is that of tribe level with no capacity to produce intricate machines and process raw material. The empire on the other hand is a superpower that has subdued the moon of Endor to be the base of operations of their shield generator for the Deat...
