Though nuclear weapons have been utilized only twice in warfare and causing conflicts between parties or countries involved, banning these dangerous weapons has gained considerable attention. The essay will compare and contrast the differences and similarities regarding nuclear weapon usage between Syria and the United States and give a conclusion based on the comparison.
Differences
Nuclear weapons and their usage became relatively typical in most states around the planet. Specifically, until 2013, the Syrian government was among the seven central Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) non-State. CWC refers to a global treaty that officially became operational towards the end of the 20th century. Its principal purpose is to ban the creation, generation, possession, storing, or hoarding, maintenance, transfer, and use of chemical (nuclear) weapons. Various intelligence evaluations regarded that Syria had a vital chemical weapon capacity that comprised nerve agents such as sarin and sulfur mustard, a renowned blister agent. The inspiration for Syria's nuclear weapon agenda was usually perceived as a strategic restriction against Israel, created after its downfalls in the 1967 Six Days War, including the famous Yom Kippur War. Syrian events have stressed the global community's implication of chemical weapon concerns. Moreover, terrorists' usage of industrial chemicals like chlorine has unquestionably stigmatized this weapon category (Pita & Domingo, 2014).
