Leadership is the heart of every organization in the world today and is described as the process o leading teams or followers. The ability to understand individual emotions and those of others, how they may potentially define behaviors, and applying this knowledge to motivate others to constitute emotional intelligence (EI) (Drigas & Papoutsi, 2018). EI plays a critical role in self-leadership through four different domains: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and social skills.
As a component of EI, self-awareness refers to the ability to understand one’s inner thoughts, emotions, behaviors, preferences, values, and strengths, and weaknesses. Although most leaders never find it necessary to control emotions, it is a necessary ingredient for good self-leadership (Meinert, 2018). Social awareness is the ability to study other people’s emotions and make an interpretation about their situations while navigating and sifting through one’s thoughts and emotions in a healthy way to make decisions and attain desired goals for mutual benefits is self-management (Godfrey-Billy, 2021).
