My success approach requires establishing and maintaining a holistic development strategy encompassing social, financial, and knowledge growth. Social growth includes excelling in areas like cultural competency, ethics, social intelligence, and emotional intelligence. Knowledge growth will define my success as a student and incorporates time management and college engagement. Finally, the college experience will help me develop my financial skills critical to excelling throughout my life. Life brings challenges and victories depending on how one exercises these qualities. Therefore, my future will be an experiment and application of things I have learned during my college years and the ability to evolve and improve on these qualities.
Interaction with people in the employment, family, and community environments requires social skills. The population is demographically diverse that one must possess cultural competency, ethics, social intelligence, and emotional intelligence. Cultural competency is a set of codes of conduct that respects and shows respect for other's beliefs and identity. I will require these qualities to function and obtain support and approval from my colleagues in school, workplace, and community. For example, I will encounter people with religious beliefs, race, and cultural practices that differ from mine. I must understand how to treat, communicate, and respond to their needs and appreciate their contribution in a respectful manner. Social intelligence and emotional intelligence are interrelated with cultural competency. They define how I will connect, understand and treat others in various environments.
