Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles
Leadership is the act of guiding an institution or individuals towards the desired end result. Compassion, discernment and good decision making are good attributes of a leader. A nursing leader is a professional who is noble and also the protector of health in the community. Loss of trust in health facilities comes up when patients and their families start to notice irresponsible healthcare workers behavior. Emotional intelligence is the foundation that can provide the discernment to support teamwork, fruitfulness, motivation and much more. Depending on the type of leadership an organization uses, emotional intelligence can provide leaders with a connection to the employees.
Assessment of Situation
SGAH had been trending in the media due to poor leadership that had caused the death of patients. The community no longer had confidence in the hospital due to the kind of information circulating from the hospital workers. A vote of no confidence is a formal vote that is issued by members of a body on whether a leader is still fit for the position. The leader at SGAH should be able to acknowledge the emotions arising from the problem and give assistance. Allowing the staff to express how they feel could uphold the good work they have been doing. Constantly training staff on crisis management, if necessary arrange a specific time to do the training to equip them with helpful skills.
Effectiveness of Interventions
The clinical approach was an important intervention to getting the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital back to shape. Constantly evaluating the state of the hospital, engaging the staff in the healing procedure and using of soft language CITATION Ban19 \l 1033 (Alknawy, 2019). The leader should offer a personalized appearance, make time to listen and understand the staff CITATION Car20 \l 1033 (Moore, 2020). Giving a resolute focus to the goal and agreed priorities. Create a new hospital culture by being transparent and trustworthy to all the stakeholders of the hospital.
The interventions have helped SGAH improve its profitability by a big margin as well as expand operations. SGAH was able to create its first operating board as well as enabled the hospital to receive several great awards. SGAH was also able to get its conditional accreditation replaced for three years.
