Introduction
This article was published in the Scandinavian Journal of Caring Science in 2019. The article is authored and reviewed by scholars affiliated with different medical facilities and institutions in Sweden. The study aimed to find the meaning of lived experiences of surviving an in-hospital cardiac arrest. The authors declared no conflict of interest and acknowledged that their research was funded by the Swedish Heart and Lung Association and The Medical Research Council of Southeast Sweden.
Review of the introduction
The introduction features a title on the background of the problem. The authors sought to give an overview of the problem, especially its history. Moreover, the introduction highlights the parity in the literature on the lived experiences of patients who suffered cardiac arrest in hospitals. The researchers note that this area has been overlooked. Most of the knowledge in this area has been extrapolated from out-of-hospital CA survivors without considering the group difference. However, the research lacks key sections necessary for each research. The introduction should feature a problem statement, purpose, research questions, theoretical framework, and research hypotheses. Whilst these subsections are lacking; the reader can deduce the study’s aim and purpose from the introduction.
Review of the Literature review
The literature review section is very important and should be included in any research project. It shows that the researchers considered all the information regarding the topic and are well-informed on how and why they should continue doing the research project. It also helps the researchers to review and improve their research methods and processes. However, the researchers did not include this section, but there is evidence that they reviewed existing literature. There is a list of bibliographic information at the end of the article, which shows the sources used in the research. The bibliographic list is largely made up of peer-reviewed sources, which show that the researchers considered credible sources for the research. Secondly, there are in-text citations throughout the article that acknowledge the source of information they have cited. However, the research is moderately up to date. For medical research, recent literature is paramount, but over half (22 of the 39) bibliographic entries were published more than five years as of the article’s publication.
Review of Theoretical or Conceptual Framework
This research study did not feature a review of the literature section. It should have been included to connect the research study to the subject’s existing literature and theoretical models.
Review of the Methodology
The researchers elected to use the qualitative phenomenological hermeneutic method. Phenomenological hermeneutic research typically involves the researchers’ co...
