Mainly focus on South America.
This assignment addresses course outcomes by:
(1) demonstrating in-depth knowledge of a particular cultural, political-economic and/or environmental issue affecting South American societies;
(2) interpreting academic and journalistic information on South America from a critical anthropological perspective; and
(3) connecting an issue affecting a particular South American people or culture to national, regional and global processes, through public communication and writing.
This will benefit students by showing how concepts explored in the course extend to data collected from independent research using outside sources. Reflective insights and a succinct summary of the aims, accomplishments and broader implications of the study will offer students the opportunity to adjust in their own attitudes and beliefs about this culture area of the world.
By the end of this assignment, students will be able to:
• use writing to convey information about a particular culture, nation and region;
• summarize the importance of independent research for understanding South America.
