Debates over the Inclusion of the Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights (Bill) is perhaps one of the foremost and most essential amendments in the Constitution. It helped protect the citizens' rights against an abusive government and paved the way for a more responsible and accountable one. However, despite the importance of the Bill in the modern-day interactions between the State and its people, its inception and inclusion in the Constitution have been among the most widely debated topics in the history of the United States. On the one hand, the Federalists argued that the Bill of Rights' inclusion is unnecessary for it might cause the unforeseen danger of limiting the rights of the people. On the other hand, the anti-federalists believed that such inclusion is necessary for it serves as a system of checks-and-balances against the government. Nevertheless, I believe that the Bill of Rights should always be included in every nation to fully realize the promises of democracy.
