Background
Homelessness is a critical social problem that impacts many geographical areas globally. In the past decade, Vancouver has experienced an increased rate of homelessness, leading to antisocial behaviors and poor mental health. Homelessness is critical since it jeopardizes one's ability to engage in normal societal activities. It is a specific condition where an individual cannot afford adequate, safe, and stable housing (Zufferey, 2016). Many policies have been established to address primary homelessness; however, the issue is still prevalent. The increased homelessness rate in Vancouver provides reliable information for understanding the necessary policy solutions. Homelessness is generated by the increased birthrate and low housing facilities facing a larger population not to afford the houses. The information on homelessness is critical for establishing a reliable policy framework that can be implemented to mitigate social issues such as isolation and deteriorated mental health. Vancouver comprises 186,192 individuals, with approximately 600 individuals experiencing shelter issues (U.S. Census Bureau, 2022). Homelessness is a critical policy issue since it is resolvable by effective adjustment in the housing policies that the government can easily achieve with the help of social work facilities. Therefore, homelessness must be addressed to reduce the adverse impacts on the citizens and enhance a positive image in the country.
Research Question
* What are the possible policy mitigation factors that can be utilized to address homelessness in Vancouver and restore social stability in the area?
The research question is original and timely since it opts to address the problem when it is heavily impacting a larger population in Vancouver. It is also substantial since it incorporates the aspect of policy adjustment necessary for restoring the social image in the area. Besides, it opts to address other social issues generated by homelessness, such as sexual abuse and violence in the area. There is a need to adjust the policy to accommodate the homeless. The rationale behind the research question is to establish a reliable framework suitable for revising key policy information to come up with a final solution to homelessness issues in Vancouver. The policy issue is also significant since it can be utilized to address the causes of housing problems and flexibility among the homeless. It can also reduce the cost of living and ensure sustainable housing approaches.
