Homelessness is a chronic societal problem in modern societies, developed and undeveloped alike. As of January 2020, there were over 580,000 people experiencing homelessness in the United States, with a majority (70%) being individuals and the rest, families (Alpert, 2020). There is no single fit-for-all solution to homelessness because it is a complicated issue that involves multiple stakeholders with contradicting perceptions and views on the issue. Local churches, however, have both moral and religious-based obligations to assist the needy in society. From Homeless to Hopeful Program is a church-based program to provide help and hope for the homeless. The current paper is a SWOT Analysis of a local church seeking to initiate such a program.

SWOT Analysis

            SWOT analysis is an essential concept in business that interrogates an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that enhance or threaten the ability to conduct business or run a program or project (Gurel, 2017). Based on the information from the analysis, the local church can determine whether it can realistically and successfully implement the program.

Strengths

The local church has several key strengths that can help it realize its project. These include solid and extensive partnerships, availability of voluntary service and expertise providers, stable funding, and religious motivations. The local church has been in existence for over 35 years, in which it has developed partnerships with local, government, and international organizations and private business entities in different sectors. Mosley (2021) argued that cross-sector collaboration is necessary for the realization of effective homelessness solutions. In terms of voluntary service providers, church members are motivated by the Biblical teachings of loving others as we love ourselves. They are therefore willing to provide the necessary human resources and contribute financial resources towards the program. These strengths provide the church with leverage to realize the goals of the new program.
