Role of Social Responsibility in the Homelessness Issue

Corporate social responsibility refers to the modern business model in which an organization's bottom-line is three-dimensional, focusing on the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of society. In other words, the business model seeks to ensure that an organization takes responsibility for its actions on the people and the environment in which the organization operates and people live. The social aspect of the organizational bottom-line focuses on inherent organizational issues like state homelessness.

Homelessness

Homelessness is not only a developed nations' problem but is also a global crisis. In the United States, there were an estimated 553,742 individuals experiencing homelessness as of 2017 (Munthe-Kaas, Berg, & Blaasvær, 2018). The estimate suggests that 17 in every 10000 Americans are in a state of homelessness. Homelessness is a complex and dynamic societal issue that requires collaboration among different entities for sustainable solutions. Through their corporate social responsibility programs, business organizations, particularly those based on faith, also have a role to play in the issue.

Role of CSR in Resolving Homelessness

Business organizations impact the society or community in which they operate. Among these responsibilities include taking into account the social wellbeing of people. Further, faith-based business organizations, based on the Biblical teachings of the good Samaritan, have a spiritual responsibility to assist the needy members of society.
