Same-sex Domestic Violence, Physical Abuse, and the Rights of LGBT Community

Research Paper Instructions:

Identification and Description of the topic:
Select a topic of interest in the VMFIR area where you think more community awareness or intervention efforts are needed. This is your thesis of the paper. Narrow the topic area as best as possible as it will focus the paper and project. Think, of a specific community or population to address or focus on for the paper/project.
Define the problem. (e.g. risk factors and/or known causes)
Describe the topic in terms of scope and severity. Give the scope of the problem citing relevant statistics, etc. (e.g. statistics and/or prevalence and/or incidence; How many people are affected by the problem? Who are affected by the problem? Why should we pay attention to the problem?)
Literature Review of the Problem:
Review peer-reviewed research journals and select at least 5 articles, published within the last eight (8) years AND at least 3 other reputable sources from government websites, media, or other scholarly materials that help explain the extent of your topic and its impact. (What are others saying about your topic?)
Discuss any cultural implications. How do culture, race/ethnicity, gender, and/or socioeconomic status interact with the chosen problem? (If you’ve narrowed your topic, perhaps your thesis is addressing, comparing and/or contrasting a particular or specific population.
Summarize your findings and cite appropriately.
Literature Review of an Intervention:
Select an intervention that can be applied at the micro, mezzo, and/or macro level. This must be an intervention that social workers, nurses and/or other helping professionals can apply to their clients/patients or community. If there are numerous interventions, then pick only a few to discuss. If part of the “problem” is the lack of resources or interventions find what literature is saying about this or argue why this lack or limitation causes the problem. Realize that using “the lack of resources/intervention” as the problem or thesis, it will be difficult to complete this assignment and paper/project. If you are advocating for a policy (macro level) intervention you must prove/show how that policy change would serve as an intervention, therefore the policy change needs to have been practiced and used to have a literature review to draw from.
Describe the intervention and how it applies to the problem.
Indicate if the selected intervention has been supported with research findings.
Identify a recommended place/community that can benefit from the intervention and a preferred method of delivery. (This should be the community or population you’ve narrowed your project and research to.)
Are there any cultural implications to the intervention? Any limitations? Again, summarize your findings and cite appropriately.
Conclusion Your paper must have a conclusion or summary. Summarize the “state of knowledge” regarding the issue/problem that is the focus of the paper affecting this group/population.
The paper should be typed, in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font, double spaced, and 8 to 10 pages in length, not including the cover page and/or the bibliography. The paper must have one-inch margins all-around, with the right-side margin not justified. A cover page is necessary with a minimum of each student’s names and a title. The citation style and format should be according to the American Psychological Association (APA). As this is a formal, college level literature review style paper, the personal “I” pronoun shall not be used. If you are not sure how to cite in APA format, conduct a search on the internet for examples, ask the librarians, or seek assistance from the professor. Grammar, punctuation, and spelling will also be considered when grading.

Same Sex Domestic Violence/Physical Abuse
Same-sex domestic violence and physical abuse are barely visible in society, and recognizing the rights of the LGBT community is necessary to raise awareness, prevent and prosecute intimate violence perpetrators. Intimate partner violence between people of the same sex is a problem that has not received much attention in research and the media like heterosexual couples. Yet, victims are likely to suffer adverse long-term effects. Rollè et al. (2018) pointed out that the lifetime prevalence of intimate partner violence among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) partners is similar and at times higher than heterosexual couples and partners.
Physical and psychological include physical assault, humiliation, aggression, rape threats, and harassment. Similar to heterosexual couples, violence in same-sex couples has a dominant and submissive partner regardless of gender roles. Law enforcement officers and institutions dealing with domestic violence mainly focus on heterosexual couples and affect interventions with the lack of research and data on same-sex domestic violence. Generally, perceptions and policies and actions targeting preventing gender violence are often based on helping victims’ mostly female partners, but anyone can be a victim of intimate partner violence.
Physical abuse and same-sex violence increase the risk of physical harm, including injuries, and yet, same-sex domestic violence remains an understudied topic. Victims of same-sex physical and sexual violence tend to be invisible. Yet, same-sex violence is a public health concern that needs to be addressed to prevent and reduce the likelihood of violent victimization (Gehring & Vaske, 2017). The lack of specialized support services for victims of same-sex domestic violence and appropriate shelter for those who move away from their ...
