Audism refers to other people's behavior and philosophies against people with problems in hearing, resulting in stereotyping and negative stigma against them. This concept originates from an ancient ideology that barbarians are individuals who cannot speak, thereby paralleling language to humanity. Due to these, it limits the day-to-day movement and their participation in society because some people prevent them secondary to their biases against their capacity to hear, understand, and speak CITATION Nat21 \l 1033 (National Resource Center on Domestic Violence). The concept can be observed in individuals who voluntarily imply prejudice, but sometimes, some do it subconsciously and without malicious intent.
Audism can be demonstrated in many forms in everyday life. It can be illustrated by people in the educational field, work, at home, the same deaf community, or even by humbly refusing to conversate with them. It can be present at the homes of deaf people, especially if their family members did not effort to learn sign language CITATION Nat21 \l 1033 (National Resource Center on Domestic Violence).
Some of the examples are the following: 1) When an individual decline to conversate with a deaf person secondary to the lack of knowledge on how to use sign language or the refusal to do so even if one knows how to use it; 2) Dismissing the opinions of the deaf person even if he has strong opinions portrayed via sign language; 3) Reluctance to provide the needs of people with hearing problems; 4) Reducing expectations from them; 5) Offering help even with the simplest things that can be done even with a problem with hearing; 6) Calling them via mobile phone even when they cannot understand (National Resource Center on Domestic Violence; Berke).
