McBeth’s Downfall
Mcbeth is by and large seen as a tragic hero, and therefore many people hold the belief that the tragic flaw of Mcbeth is what ultimately brings about his downfall. The downfall of Mcbeth is attributed to the 3 witches, Lady Mcbeth, and Mcbeth himself. This essay provides an exhaustive discussion with regard to the fall of Mcbeth, in the play Mcbeth which was written by William Shakespeare.
The three witches
The fall of Mcbeth in the Shakespearean play could be attributed to the three witches since they put the idea of being king into the head of Mcbeth. The prophesies made by the 3 witches played a part in the fall of Mcbeth. They implanted into Mcbeth’s head the idea of him being a king of the land. Mcbeth would not have killed Duncan were it not for the 3 witches’ intervention (Holloway 3). These three witches told Mcbeth that he would become king and with this idea in his mind, Mcbeth plots to murder Duncan which in the end brought about his death. The 3 witches were aware that Mcbeth would cause all the chaos which he ultimately caused.
Lady Mcbeth
The fall of Mcbeth could also be attributed to Lady Mcbeth because of how she convinced Mcbeth. This woman is responsible for the tragedy of Mcbeth since she swayed and manipulated Mcbeth into slaying King Duncan. Lady Mcbeth did so by insulting his manliness which Mcbeth took great insult in. This woman mocked the gender of Mcbeth (Colston 62). Mcbeth in the play is recognized as a valiant, fearless and bold soldier. Lady Mcbeth makes use of this in causing shame to him. This is actually the reason as to why he murdered Duncan – that is, Mcbeth wanted to prove that he is really not a coward as Lady Mcbeth had stated. In general, individuals have a tendency of wanting to prove themselves when others do not believe in them (Spolsky 490). She convinced and manipulated Mcbeth owing to her greed for power. She clearly understands that she has the capability of controlling Mcbeth and when Mcbeth becomes king, she would be able to actually have control over him and be queen of the kingdom herself. It is worth mentioning that this demonstrates that if it were not for Lady Mcbeth, Mcbeth would have certainly not murdered Duncan and a tragedy would not have occurred.
Mcbeth
Mcbeth himself can also be blamed for his own downfall given that he followed his ambition more than he actually followed his own conscience. On the whole, if Mcbeth would not have been very narrow sighted and ambi...
