Nursing Research Critique

Research Paper Instructions:

Write a critical appraisal that demonstrates comprehension of two quantitative research studies. Use the "Research Critique Guidelines – Part II" document to organize your essay. Successful completion of this assignment requires that you provide a rationale, include examples, and reference content from the study in your responses.
Use the practice problem and two quantitative, peer-reviewed research articles you identified in the Topic 1 assignment to complete this assignment.
In a 1,000–1,250 word essay, summarize two quantitative studies, explain the ways in which the findings might be used in nursing practice, and address ethical considerations associated with the conduct of the study.
The first step of the evidence-based practice process is to evaluate a nursing practice environment to identify a nursing problem in the clinical area. When a nursing problem is discovered, the nurse researcher develops a clinical guiding question to address that nursing practice problem.

Quantitative Studies
Background
1 Summary of studies. Include problem, significance to nursing, purpose, objective, and research question.
The study by Nadukkandiyil et al. (2020) mainly seeks to explore the implementation of ulcer prevention and management in elderly patients in a tertiary care hospital in Qatar. The study investigates the best possible ways to help prevent the development of pressure ulcers in elderly patients. The study considers aspects like patient risk factors, the demographics of patients, and the clinical characteristics of patients. The study is quite crucial and significant to nursing as it helps to reveal some of the ways that pressure ulcers can be prevented. Pressure ulcers can become quite severe if left unchecked and interventions not considered early enough. Therefore, this study helps develop several ways and methods that can help protect the health of the elderly populace. The objective of the study was to determine some of the best ways to help prevent pressure ulcers in elderly patients. However, it is crucial to note that there was no direct research question indicated in the paper.
The other research paper is by Donini et al. (2005). In this study, the researchers sought to determine how nutritional status impacts the evolution of pressure sores in geriatric patients. As indicated in the study, the objective was “to verify, a posteriori, how nutritional status influenced the evolution of PS in a population of elderly subjects hospitalized in a long-term care setting.” The significance of this study is quite obvious as it helps to reveal how the nutritional status of patients contributes to the evolution or lack thereof of pressure ulcers in elderly patients. While there is no direct research question offered, the study’s focus is quite clear. Furthermore, it is crucial to note that it also seeks to understand how best the nutritional status of patients contributes to the healing of pressure ulcers. Thus, the study is indeed a great addition to the literature on pressure ulcers as it helps to reveal how nutrition can be a crucial intervention in the fight to prevent or mitigate the harm caused by pressure ulcers.
How do these two articles support the nurse practice issue you chose?
1 Discuss how these two articles will be used to answer your PICOT question.
2 Describe how the interventions and comparison groups in the articles compare to those identified in your PICOT question.
Method of Study:
1 State the methods of the two articles you are comparing and describe how they are different.
Nadukkandiyil et al.’s (2020) study use a retrospective longitudinal study conducted on elderly patients above 65years. The data collection period was October 2014 to October 2015, and the setting was “the medical ward under acute Geriatric care at Hamad General Hospital in Qatar.” The sample included a total of 90 patients.
