Introduction
In almost any type of organization, addressing problems and issues in the provision of services is of utmost importance. This characteristic does not only improve the organization’s credibility but also client satisfaction. In the field of healthcare, this importance given towards addressing issues and improving the work processes is much more needed especially as it could have severe impacts on the patient’s life. Thus, in this study, the process of improving the work processes within a health organization would be discussed. Mainly, this improvement would be about a simple yet significant task in the day-to-day operations of a healthcare facility, which is the queuing of patients. As of today, many healthcare facilities face problems in dealing with a sudden surge of patients due to problems in the queuing process. All in all, the author believes that by having a visual cue of the work process (in the form of a flow chart), issues within an organization could quickly be resolved thereby increasing the efficiency of the work processes.
Queuing Flowchart
Figure 1 below provides a general illustration of an efficient way to tend to patients and make them queue in line. During the day-to-day operations of any healthcare facility, there are times when the number of patients surges to unmanageable levels that cause the facilities to be too crowded. At times, this could cause irritability to many patients as well as restrict the efficiency of hospital staff to perform their tasks (Nosek Jr & Wilson, 2011). In the flowchart below, it could be seen that the initial step is asking for personal details, medical history, and symptoms of the patient. This would be done by the reception staff and will make sure that the doctors could easily diagnose and provide treatment for the patient. Additionally, this would also help the staff identify patients who have disabilities or are senior citizens. These people who are part of such groups would then be asked to queue to the express lane, where there are doctors and other staffs that are ready to tend to them immediately.
