Effect of Daily Exercise on Incidences of Myocardial Infarction in Adult Men

Research Paper Instructions:

Abstract Assignment – Due November 13th, 2017 by 2:00 pm Many researchers wait until the last minute to write an abstract, which is the most strategic summary they will craft about their research. However, a well-structured abstract, drafted in advance, can serve as a roadmap for a proposal, upcoming presentation and an eventual published paper (Belcher, 2009; Swales & Feak, 2009). One highly effective organizational structure for writing abstracts is O.J.I.S.H. – Outline the field, Justify the study, Introduce the paper, Summarize the method, then Highlight the findings. This individual writing assignment is created based on the O.J.I.S.H guideline and modified according to the course objectives. This assignment will assess your critical thinking skills that are essential for interpreting research and providing state of the art evidence-based healthcare. General Guidelines and Point Allocation rubric are below.

Abstract
The identified problem is the high rate of myocardial infarction (MI), also known as heart attack, among men aged forty years and above. MI is a result of coronary artery disease. Lack of physical activity is a major risk factor for MI (Malfatto et al., 2014). Age is also a notable risk factor since 4 out of 5 patients with MI are aged 65 years or above (Myers, 2013). Diseases of the cardiovascular system are some of the most common illnesses these days, and in many nations around the globe, they are the leading causes of mortality.
The main consequence of the problem, namely myocardial infarction, is death (Leitch et al., 2014). It is of note that this is among the chief causes of death in both developing and industrialized nations. According to Myers (2013), cardiovascular disease, myocardial infarction in particular, causes up to 50% of all mortalities. It is, in fact, the leading cause of mortality amongst female and male adults. While MI could actually be fatal, it may also result in serious illness, disability, as well as lower quality of life (Pantelic et al., 2013). Regarding the financial consequences, heart disease and myocardial infarction cause the country about $400 billion every year in lost productivity and healthcare costs (Myers, 2013). Exercise limitation and/or bed rest in the mid 20th century were viewed as beneficial for most cardiovascular patients. Even so, the benefits of physical activities for such patients are nowadays accepted widely as a non-pharmacological intervention for improving their levels of fitness.
An MI or heart attack takes place whenever one of the arteries that supply oxygen to the person’s heart muscle becomes obstructed (Fujimoto et al., 2016). If the muscle of the heart is without oxygen for a very long time, it becomes damaged permanently. Myocardial infarction is more prevalent among African Americans than any other ethnic group in America (Leitch et al., 2015). Among black adults aged 20 years and above, 2.3 percent of women and 3.9 percent of men have had a myocardial infarction (Myers, 2013). Without doubt, black men above the age of forty years have a higher morbidity and mortality than Hispanic and white men as a result of myocardial infarc...
