Pathophysiology is a vital body of knowledge for clinical practice. The outstanding collaboration and gratefulness I had with my professor during the course built my capacity to use advanced pathophysiology knowledge across the lifespan. More importantly, my professor constantly sought feedback from students. It was a fulfilling experience to interact with my professor, ask questions, and get constant clarifications on important issues, thus preparing me to enhance my practice in care management and decision-making processes. This information-sharing relationship enabled me to engage in sufficient meaningful learning experiences as well as improve my application of clinical practice and influenced me to be a lifelong self-motivated learner.
Integration of the advanced pathophysiology course improved my clinical practice as I can diagnose disorders and syndromes as well as their clinical manifestations, signs, and symptoms. In order to provide culturally-sensitive advanced nursing practice programs of care, I will need to learn how to implement evidence-based practice information within the clinical practice environment. In this context, the advanced pathophysiology class equipped me with the necessary skills and competencies to understand pathophysiologic, psychological, physiological, as well as sociocultural data. Accordingly, I have the skills to synthesize such knowledge and apply it to enhance patient treatment and health outcomes (Paul et al., 2019). In addition, I developed a deeper understanding of the recovery progress stages of a medical condition. In essence, I have the skills to establish illness stages and effectively intervene when my clients fail to meet critical milestones.
The course also provided more advanced information necessary to create and implement patients’ treatment plans, order tests, and prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment interventions.
