Internal Water Purification Technology Into the Beer Production System

The beer industry has continued to remain profitable for quite a long time. However, it is currently facing challenges such as increasing competitive products in the market, falling consumer demand, challenging access to the market, and high requirements by consumers and retailers. Such a junction of challenging development has acted as a hurdle to the large production of beers. As a result, companies seek ways of making the production process efficient to reduce costs and increase or generate profit (or increasing the bottom line). One of the techniques that can be employed in accomplishing this entails incorporating technological innovations particularly in the beer production process, which may help make the production efficient, hence reducing costs and increasing the bottom line of such firms by assisting in generating profits. Water purification technology is one such technology that can significantly help in the areas illuminated above.

The percentage of water in beer is often about 90 to 95%. Every stage of the brewing process usually requires water usage. However, only a small fraction usually makes it precisely into the package. Naushad (2019) explains that in every average brewer house, roughly seven to eight water gallons are used to produce a gallon of beer. The ratio is likely to go high in less efficient breweries. Also, a huge amount of water is generally used in the cleaning process, and it main entails about four to nine gallons for every beer gallon. Besides, additional beer is usually required in the cooling, as well as packaging. Similarly, much of the used water in the breweries are always sent down the drain, with a significant amount lost because of evaporation. Upgrading of equipment through the incorporation of technology such as water purification technology embedded in-process adjustments can further increase efficiency regarding water use, thus making the production of beer profitable.

The key to the success of a brewery involves the optimization regarding the use of all resources entailed in the process with consideration of the increasing energy costs. Offering a technical innovation like an internal water purification technology into the production system can play a vital role in reducing beer production costs. Water usage is always a high cost that is critical to brewing beer. For instance, brewed beers usually use more hops to help in the creation of flavor that most clients (beer drinkers) prefer. However, these hops often need a lot of water to process. A purification technology that helps in reducing water in the process of production to a ratio of 4 to 1 would help lower the production cost. A purification mechanism through technological innovation can address the opportunities associated with wasted water efficiency. Consumption of a low water percentage in beer production also helps in improving water efficiency (Lema & Suarez, 2017).

The technological innovation of water purification technology will lower the production cost of beer by reducing the capital, maintenance, and ...
